Director Lee Daniels is hoping to make another real-life story for his next film, following the success of Lee Daniels’ The Butler this past weekend. The Oscar nominated director is still interested in making a film about the life of singer Janis Joplin.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels said that he hopes to make the project that has been stalled for a decade. “This is my next project for sure,” he said. "I had no idea Janis Joplin was so smart -- intellectual, even. Look, some of the smartest people in the world have been drug addicts.”

Amy Adams has been linked to the project at least since July 2010. Daniels said that he’s confident in her singing abilities, adding “Guess what? She can sing her ass off!” Of course, we’ve seen Adams sing in Enchanted and The Muppets.

Daniels also brought the Joplin project up with Forbes, noting that he’s also “talking about Richard Pryor, too.”

The Butler opened with $25 million this past weekend and stars Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey. The film tells the true story of a butler who worked in the White House for over a half a century.

Daniels was nominated for an Oscar for directing 2009’s Precious, which was also nominated for Best Picture.
