Paul McCartney has announced his new album, appropriately titled New. The former Beatle also released the single, which carries the same title.

In the announcement on his official site, McCartney offered just a simple comment, “We can do as we want, we can live as we chose,” which is a line from the song.

New is currently up for pre-order on iTunes. You can order the 14-track deluxe edition for $13.99. A standard edition will feature 12 tracks made with talented musicians who have not worked with McCartney before. For example, “New” was produced by Mark Ronson.

The single is also available for download for $1.29. The album will be released on Oct. 14 worldwide and on Oct. 15 in the U.S.

It is McCartney’s first album of all original material since Memory Almost Full in 2007. His previous release, Kisses on the Bottom, included mostly covers and just two originals. In 2008, he also released The Fireman’s Electric Arguments with Youth.

McCartney also played with the surviving members of Nirvana during the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit show last fall and again in July on his Out There tour.

McCartney promised for more details on his site soon. In the meantime, you can check out “New” below:
