A group of computer thieves opted to return their loot after realizing they had taken the items from a rape crisis center.
According to CNN, six computer towers and a brand new laptop were stolen from a San Bernardino, California rape crisis center only to be returned hours later.
Candy Stallings executive director of San Bernardino Sexual Assault Services. explains that she received a phone call around 10:30 p.m. from her security system saying that activity was detected inside of the center. Upon arrival, police informed her that the thieves entered through the roof causing nearly $5,000 in damage.
"It was pretty devastating," she said. "... I thought that we're never going to recover from this. ... Every single computer we have is so vital to the work that we do."
Stallings returned home after a lengthy discussion with police only to receive another phone call about more suspicious activity at the center. When she and the police returned they saw that all of the computer equipment had been returned as with a hand written note.
"We had no idea what we were takeing (sic)," the note began. "Here your stuff back we hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in peoples live. God Bless."
"It's unbelievable,” Stallings expressed. “Even today it's unbelievable. ... One minute everything was gone, and the next minute everything was back. Those persons that came into the office had a change of heart. They had some compassion.
Stallings states that she has since framed and posted the note in the facility for everyone to see. The note has given the facility a ton of attention, including donations and supports. Stallings opted to post her own note to the thieves on the donation page. “The fact that you cared enough to give has touched our hearts. Every little bit helps."
