After hearing enough backlash, Charlie Day backed up his Pacific Rim co-star, saying he’ll be “fantastic.”

The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor spoke up amidst all the hoopla over Hunnam being cast as Christian Grey, E! Online reports.

“First of all, I think he’s going to do fantastic because he’s a great actor and a handsome guy,” Day told E!. “And when you’re seeing a movie about sex, you want a handsome guy. On top of that, he’s a good actor, so I think he’s going to do a great job.”

E! points out that the British actor has been previously nominated for a Critic’s Choice for his character, Jax, in Sons of Anarchy.

Since the news broke on Monday that Hunnam was cast instead of fans’ preferred choice of Matt Bomer or Ian Somerhalder, fans have been lashing out online about the choice.

Nearly 30,000 fans have gone overboard and started a petition hoping that Fifty Shades of Grey producers change their mind.

Probably won’t happen. Perhaps they should check out Hunnam in Sons of Anarchy which starts again Wednesday night on FX and give him a chance.
