Kate Winslet said in a recent interview that she chose to be in Divergent so her kids would think she's cool.

According to MTV, Winslet said her kids are nearing the age where they would read the Divergent novel and that interested her in the role.

"In fact, my daughter, two days ago, came home from school and went, 'Mom! You're never going to believe it. Rufus came up to me at school and said, 'Is your mom really in 'Divergent'? Is there going to be a premiere? Can you get me a ticket?'"

The Titanic actress added, "I did it because I wanted my kids to think I was cool."

Though her kids were the prime reason she took the role, Winslet said she enjoyed the experience on set. "It was a really fun set to be on. I can't wait to see it. I think it's going to be a great film."

The first teaser trailer debuted before the MTV Music Awards. The brief clip introduces the viewer to a dystopian world where Shailene Woodley's character is seen as a threat because she doesn't fit into one of five predetermined groups based on traits.

The actress will also appear in the upcoming film Labor Day, opposite Josh Brolin. The movie is out Jan. 31, 2014.
