In a new interview, the remaining members of Queen dispute the reason Sacha Baron Cohen left the Freddie Mercury film.
It was previously reported in July that the Ali G actor had left the film due to creative differences. At the time it was said Cohen wanted to play Freddie Mercury in an edgier way, but the band had disagreed, looking for a more family friendly portrayal.
In an interview with MOJO magazine, drummer Roger Taylor said that it was because, "We didn't want it to be a joke."
"We felt Sacha probably wasn't right in the wend. We didn't want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved."
Once Cohen left the project, Daniel Radcliffe's name started getting tossed around, The Huffington Post notes.
However, the Harry Potter denied the rumors, saying they were completely wrong.
"There is no truth to it at all. It's one of those very, very funny things -- it came out of a story in the Daily Star and then you see newspapers like The Guardian using The Star as their source, and it grows and grows [until] it's 'Dan Radcliffe is playing Freddie Mercury,' which I was never going to do."
