No one says, "Go to Hell!" more romantically than Star Anna does. This, as she describes herself - "Ellensburg born and Seattle raised singer and songwriter" is going to get everybody wrapped around her finger with her new LP titled “Go To Hell,” which drops September 24th.
The released track, also named “Go To Hell,” opens with a perfect combination of piano, which carries the emotion and sets the mood of this song and drums that carry all the heaviness and melancholy. They are accompanied by the singer’s raspy voice and highly emotional and seductive "you’ll go to hell…" In the middle the song, it picks up the tempo and gets more intense and emotional, then it ends in a slow, shy and sad manner, showing reconciliation with what must happen to those who are prone to wrongdoings.
This track has made it to Anna’s LP, but it is important to note that it is a cover of the more upbeat Nina Simone song of the same name. Simone’s “Go To Hell” is more vivacious and determined, showing no compassion for the destiny of the one whose “mind lies in the Devil’s workshop.” Anna’s interpretation is much slower and carries more sadness for what’s inevitable.
It is obvious that this is a song about the destiny of the ones who have decided to take the wrong path in life. It is about evil, mischief, wrongdoing, greed and poor upbringing. However, Star Anna’s interpretation somehow manages to be tragically romantic, melancholic and highly emotional on the subject.
This cover shows Anna’s talent in the best way possible. It is so unique and beautifully interpreted that there is no chance it won’t get stuck in your head. Can’t wait to hear more when the album comes out!
