Tapple is a new game from USAopoly, released just in time for the holiday season.
To play you pick a card with a category, for example "pizza toppings" you then start the timer and come up with a word that fits with that category- ie. Pepperoni. You then press down the letter corresponding to the first letter of this word (P) on the tapple board, reset the timer, and pass the card to the next person who must think up another answer beginning with a different letter.
If you can't come up with something before the timer resets or you say something beginning with the same letter as a previous person, then you are out. The round continues until only one person is left or all the letters are pressed. The winner is the last person with the card. It seems like a simple game, but once you get going it isn't so easy! The timer adds a lot of pressure and for some reason (for me anyway) the inclination is to say something beginning with the same letter as the previous word.
Rated for ages 8 and up, this game is a lot of fun for all ages and can easily be modified for younger kids by turning off the timer. My almost 3 year old had a blast playing a slower version without the timer, and as a mom I liked that it was actually educational as she is starting to learn first letters and categories.
Available on Amazon , this game is sure to get a lot of mileage in our house this holiday season, particularly since it is both kid and adult friendly! More than just a gift, this is a welcome addition to any holiday party.
