Sony has hired Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner to continue its Amazing Spider-Man franchise beyond the second film. The trio has been tapped to write The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the three wrote Amazing Spider-Man 2 together, with the three sharing screenwriting credit under James Vanderbilt’s story credit. Kurtzman and Orci are also executive producers on the second film. The trio will take both screenwriting and story credit for the third movie.

Director Marc Webb is not officially signed on for the future films, but Sony is hoping that he’ll come on board. Star Andrew Garfield is expected to reprise his role as Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.

Back in June, Sony announced the release dates for Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 a year before the release of Amazing Spider-Man 2. The third film is due out on June 10, 2016, while the fourth will follow on May 4, 2018.

Webb may not be signed on for the future films, but he already spoke about the fourth one in an interview in July. He told CraveOnline at the time that he is interested in exploring the other characters in the Spider-Man universe outside of Spider-Man himself.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014. Kurtzman and Orci are also working on the third film in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot series, as well as Universal’s The Mummy reboot.
