The American Automobile Association is promoting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month by painting their tow trucks pink.
According to ABC News, in the states of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan and Nebraska, the usual red, white and blue trucks have been painted pink. A total of 16 cities will see the newly-painted trucks.
Gerry Gutowski of AAA Automotive Services, The Auto Club Group, stated that the paint jobs will hopefully create much awareness through their popularity out on the roads. "We assist more than 25 percent of the driving public with AAA roadside assistance—and our service vehicles are seen on our nation's roadways by millions of motorists each day," he said. "Our hope is that pink tow trucks will garner attention and spread awareness to help in the fight against breast cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in women."
Employees of AAA will also participate in more than 14 cancer walks to help support the American Cancer Society.
"I am a breast cancer survivor and I work for AAA in Chicago," stated employee Alene Adams. "It's comforting to know that the company I work for understands what I am going through and would support awareness initiatives in such a visible way."
The International Business Times reports that other companies such as Dannon and 5 Hour Energy have also joined the rally in support promoting breast cancer awareness.
