The internet has never been particularly quiet about how unhappy it is with the casting of Ben Affleck in the role of Batman for the Man of Steel sequel. Now Ben Affleck has admitted that he wasn't exactly sure he was right for the part at first either.
In an interview with 411Mania, the Argo star revealed that he was hesitant to take the part at first. "Initially I was reluctant as I felt I didn't fit the traditional mold," Affleck said. "But once Zack [Snyder] showed me the concept, and that it would be both different from the great movies that Chris [Nolan] and Christian [Bale] made but still in keeping with the tradition I was excited."
Affleck was asked about Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara's comments about this Batman was "tired and weary and seasoned and been doing it for awhile," and if they were how he saw the role.
"Yes, Kevin described it aptly. I don't want to go further because I want to be able to capitalized on what is new about this iteration by having it be a surprise to the audience."
So it seems that Affleck is on the same page as Snyder when it comes to how this version of Batman will be portrayed. Back when the news was first announced, Snyder had said that "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman," TheWrap notes. "He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent..."
Snyder added, "I can't wait to work with him." And we're all curious, both in a morbid and interested sense to see how the film ends up looking, but we still have a ways to wait.
