Singer/songwriter Kenny Rogers teams up with Dolly Parton on new album.

Rogers' new album, You Can't Make Old Friends released Oct. 8. On the album, Rogers teams up with Dolly Parton, 30 years after their collaboration of "Islands in the Stream," the Associated Press reports.

"Working with Dolly is a great rush for me because we are good friends and we have been forever," Rogers said.

EuroNews reports that the song, with the same title as the album, came about when Rogers asked songwriter Don Schlitz to create a piece that described Rogers and Parton's friendship.

"He took our lives and if you listen to things in there, like, 'What am I going to do when you're gone? Who's going to finish the stories I start? The way you used to do?' Dolly and I didn't get teared up, but we really reflected a great deal on our relationship and the times we had together," Rogers said. "I told her, 'I don't care if it is a hit song. I just like having our friendship recorded, documented.'"

"Islands in the Stream" made it to No. 1 on both the pop and country charts. It was also a time when rumors of an affair sparked.

"People always thought we were having an affair, and we didn't want to ruin it because if we'd had an affair, we'd lose that spark. We just flirted a lot," Rogers said. "I can't explain it but flirting is more electric than passion, it's the anticipation. She does it better than anybody I've ever seen, and it's just fun. It's fun to be in the room with her."

Rogers will also make it into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 27, an honor he's been waiting for.

"It does have a good ring to it," Rogers tells Billboard. "I thought for a while that I wasn't going to make it, but I learned that you can't invite yourself in -- you have to wait for them to call you. But, also timing is everything. I'm much happier that it happened now than if I had gotten it at the height of my career. I think there was so much going on then that I don't think I would have appreciated it as much as I do now."

Rogers is currently on tour in the US.
