It’s starting to look like Batman and Superman won’t be the only familiar heroes in Zack Snyder’s sequel to Man of Steel. Dick Grayson, better known as Robin, may appear in the film and Girls star Adam Driver is reportedly in the running to play him.
Earlier this week, the Latino Review reported that Dick Grayson may appear in Batman vs. Superman, but that the character will actually be taking on his Nightwing alter-ego, not Robin. Dick Grayson took the name Nightwing when he grew out of the Robin role.
The site said that Warner Bros. and Snyder were looking for a “young John Hawkes” type actor and the very tall, 6’ 3” Driver could fit the bill.
On Friday, TheWrap reported that Driver, 29, is the frontrunner for the Dick Grayson role, although there are two other actors in the running for the part.
The studio is also looking for a female lead to pair with Batman. That could be Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), who is the frontrunner for that part. Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) and Elodie Yung (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) are also being considered. It’s not clear if this role would be Wonder Woman, so let the speculation begin.
Driver plays the boyfriend of Lena Dunham’s character on the HBO show Girls and has also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar and the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis. His next film will be the Warner Bros. comedy This Is Where I Leave You.
Ben Affleck is playing Batman in Batman vs. Superman and Henry Cavill will return as Superman. The film hits theaters on July 17, 2015.
