For the past 35 years, hundreds have taken part in an annual dip into the cold sea on England’s shore for charity. However, this year, the fundraiser have announced that they have been forced to cancel the long-running event.

Lawrence Chapman and Mark Attenburrow, the organizers of the yearly event, have said that they canceled the charity drive because of their other commitments. Though they tried to find other charity groups to take over the event, no one was up for the task.

“It is very, very sad and not a decision we have taken lightly,” they said on their website, The Independent reported.

Instead of trying to brave the cold sea on their own, Chapman and Attenburrow encouraged determined participants to take part in other seaside swims for charity around the area.

Back in 2002, the fundraising event faced a similar downfall when insurers demanded money from the organizers, but in the end, it worked out when a third party paid the outstanding bill, said BBC.

Over the years, participants in the plunge have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.
