Joan Jett will not be riding on South Dakota's float for Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade after ranchers protested her inclusion.

South Dakotan ranchers were not pleased that the rocker would be riding on their state's float because she is both a vegetarian and supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, CNN reports.

In a statement Jett said, "I've decided to switch from South Dakota to another float because people's political agendas were getting in the way of what should be a purely entertainment driven event." She added, "I will remain focused on entertaining millions of people watching, who will be celebrating a great American tradition."

Macy's parade spokesperson Orlando Veras spoke to The Associated Press that the change was "to prevent any further distraction from our entertainment mission." Another performer for the S.D. float will be announced later.

"The Parade has never taken on, promoted or otherwise engaged in social commentary, political debate, or other forms of advocacy, no matter how worthy," said Veras in a statement. "Macy's intention is only to provide a range of entertaining elements and performers free of endorsements or agendas."

Cory Eich, S.D. Cattlemen's Association president, said of the issue, "Coming from such a rural state where livestock is such a part of our life, we didn't think it was appropriate."

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were not selected by South Dakota, but rather by Macy's after none of the artists suggested by the state were free for the float.
