The first full trailer for Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac holds nothing back. There’s plenty of sex and nudity, as expected from a film about a sex addict, played by Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Nymphomaniac is the controversial Danish director’s first film since 2011’s Melancholia, which also starred Gainsbourg. This time, she plays Joe, a woman addicted to sex. In the film, Von Trier traces her life as a young girl through adulthood and her various sexual encounters.
Despite the subject, Von Trier was able to cast several big stars in the film, including Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Udo Kier, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Connie Nielsen and Christian Slater. Most of the cast was featured in a series of posters released last month, all in the nude.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nymphomaniac will debut in Denmark next month, but when it is released internationally, it will be cut into two films. The Cannes Film Festival has already said that it will not be in competition, but they might allow for a screening of the 5 1/2 hour version.
