The Purge 2 will receive a wide released in theaters on June 20, 2014. The sequel to Blumhouse Productions’ hit thriller The Purge received the green-light to make a sequel after the horror film opened with a $34 million dollar box-office weekend.

The horror film starred Ethan Hawke and focused on his family during the “purge” event. The Purge focused on what would happen if for 12 hours crime is legal and citizens are free to take violent revenge on their enemies or let loose and live out radical, rage-filled fantasies.

The Purge made 12 times its original budget of $3 million in the opening weekend, reported Screenrant.

No official title for the sequel has been released. IGN added that The Purge writer-director James DeMonaco will be returned to produce the sequel.

Blumhouse needed to get The Purge 2 into production in California by the end of the year in order to receive a very large tax credit from the state.

No word yet on if original cast members, Lena Headey will return for the sequel.

Also set to be released on June 20, 2014 is the comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too and Clint Eastwood’s adaptation of the Beach Boys musical Jersey Boys.
