A Maryland U.S. postal worker was shot and killed while carrying out his route on Saturday.

According to ABC News, the victim, Tyson Jerome Barnette, was found already dead from several gunshot wounds around 7 p.m. by officials.

Barnette was walking in the 6000 block of Reed Street in Cheverly on duty, reports WCNC.

Fellow postal workers who were informed of Barnette's death were soon concerned for their own safety. "That could have been me," said one of the postal employees.

Officials are unsure why the 26-year-old was shot, and as investigations continued, police officers are encouraging anyone with information to call local police. There is even a $100,000 reward offered for anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest of the person guilty of the shooting.

"We're looking for any information that anyone might have about the individual responsible for the killing of the carrier or what may have transpired right before or right after," announced Frank Schissler, a U.S. Postal Inspector and public information officer for U.S. Postal Inspection Service Agency.
