It was already revealed unofficially, buy Yahoo has just officially named Katie Couric as the newest member of their team. Her new role as “global anchor” further adds to speculation her syndicated daytime talk show Katie won’t get renewed for a third season by ABC.

Couric will be seen in monthly interviews for Yahoo News and serve as the overall “face” of the site. Her role is still being defined but the veteran journalist will be helping to spearhead a new digital initiative.

"Katie's depth of experience, her intellectual curiosity, and her charisma make her the perfect choice to anchor Yahoo News and the whole Yahoo Network. Her unmatched energy, savvy, and versatility enables her to connect with audiences across the globe," CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, said in a statement, LA Times reports. "News is a definitive daily habit for our users -- and Katie will work with our talented editorial team to pioneer a new chapter of digital journalism."

In a statement of her own, Couric said she had “great admiration” for Mayer and stated she’s excited at the prospect of working with a “leading company at the intersection of content and technology.”

The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the deal, estimates that her ABC deal is worth about $40 million. It’s unclear what she will get out of it since she’s exiting it early.
