Beyonce’s new self-titled album has earned a second week at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart, dropping less than 50 percent in sales from its first week. This past week was the first time the album was available in stores, since it was originally an iTunes exclusive.
Last week, the album sold 617,000 copies on iTunes in three days, which was more than enough to top the chart over previously released albums. Billboard said today that Nielsen SoundScan numbers show that the album sold another 374,000 copies during the week ending on Dec. 22. That’s just 39 percent less copies than its first three days.
Add it all up, and Beyonce has sold 991,000 copies in 10 days, making it the 13th best-selling album of the year so far. There is one more chart week left, so it could easily join the Top 10 best selling albums of 2013.
Beyonce is even doing better than her last album, 4. Although that debuted at the top of the chart as well, it only sold 310,000 copies in its first week. In its second week, 4 sold 115,000 copies.
Garth Brooks’ Blame It All On My Roots box set, which is exclusive to WalMart and costs $24.96, came in at No. 2 with 199,000 copies sold. It’s now up to 681,000 copies sold. One Direction’s Midnight Memories came in third with 166,000 copies sold.
The rest of the Top 10 features: the Robertsons’ Duck the Halls (132,000); Kelly Clarkson’s Wrapped in Red (124,000); Eminem’s The Marshal Mathers LP 2 (115,000); PRISM by Katy Perry (99,000); the Frozen soundtrack (81,000); Michael Buble’s Christmas (68,000); and Luke Bryan’s Crash My Party (68,000).
“Say Something” by A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera topped the Digital Songs Chart with 230,000 downloads.
