A painting by George Zimmerman, the Florida man who was acquitted in the shooting death of teen Trayvon Martin, has appeared on the auction site eBay. At the moment, it has reached almost $100,000 after 98 bids.
The painting shows a waving American flag in blue. Painted on top of the flag are the words “God,” “Liberty and justice for all” and “One nation.” The owner, “therealgeorgez” has no feedback and also posted a picture of Zimmerman smiling as he holds the painting.
Local Florida station News 13 NOW spoke with Zimmerman’s brother, Robert, who confirmed that Zimmerman did make the painting. The starting bid was $50 and since it was posted, it has had 98 bidders and reached $99,966.
As Reuters notes, the eBay user appears to be Zimmerman himself, as the item description reads, “First hand painted artwork by me, George Zimmerman.”
He continues, “Everyone has been asking what I have been doing with myself. I found a creative, way to express myself, my emotions and the symbols that represent my experiences. My art work allows me to reflect, providing a therapeutic outlet and allows me to remain indoors.”
Zimmerman added a smiley face and wrote, “I hope you enjoy owning this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.”
This summer, Zimmerman was acquitted of the February 2012 shooting death of Martin. Since then though, he has had several run-ins with the law. He was arrested for domestic violence against his girlfriend, but the charges were dropped after she recanted.
