Warner Bros. and Hugh Jackman are in negotiations to cast the X-Men actor as Blackbeard in the upcoming movie Pan.
The movie studio originally was looking to have No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem play Blackbeard, but he passed on the role, reports Variety, who first wrote on the casting.
Pan will feature Blackbeard as the main villain and have the well-known antagonist Hook befriend Peter Pan at first.
Jackman was looking at several roles, but chose playing Blackbeard over a role in the remake of The Incredible Mr. Limpet.
It was reported last week that Warner Bros. had tentatively slotted Pan in for a June 26, 2015 release date, nestling it amongst many likely blockbuster films coming out during that summer, including Jurassic World, Terminator: Genesis and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
While the cast is largely still in the works, the film will be based off a script by Jason Fuchs and look at the origin story for hero Peter Pan and the early days of Neverland. Atonement director Joe Wright is at the helm.
