Move over Emerald. The color of the year for 2014 is a Fuschia-like shade called “Radiant Orchid,” according to Pantone.
Pantone is considered an authority on color and the company predicts that the color will be popular in next year’s fashions.
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
As Parade notes, Pantone expects to see the color worn by both men and women, calling it a “modern and surprisingly versatile shade.”
Just like last year’s Emerald, Pantone notes that Radiant Orchid can be used for much more than just fashion. The color “enlivens the skin, making all who wear it feel more healthy and energetic,” according to Pantone. If you are looking to integrate it into your interior design, it looks good with shades of green and goes well with turquoise, teal and yellows.
Colleen Sherin of Saks Fifth Avenue told the New York Daily News that the color is “very relevant for spring, but I think even going into next fall it can be very pretty.”
