Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have decided to move ahead with a sequel to 2012's Jack Reacher and decided on Lee Child's Never Go Back.

According to Deadline, who first reported the news, the studio decided to adapt the recently released Never Go Back and it will of course feature Tom Cruise as Reacher.

The film is on the fast track, but the studio says they are not trying to get it done before Mission: Impossible 5. Paramount is currently looking for writers to write the screenplay, as Christopher McQuarrie, who adapted the first and directed, is too busy with MI5.

Never Go Back follows Reacher as he returns to his old Virginia military base to take the commanding officer on a date. He arrives to find her being arrested and himself accused of beating up a guy and having a child with a woman. Reacher doesn't remember doing any of this and looks to clear his name, in the usual way that he does things.

Gary Levinsohn, Dana Goldberg and Paula Wagner are on board to produce the sequel, reports Variety. The first movie earned $216 million worldwide and was fairly cheap to produce and release.
