Stephen Colbert has landed himself a cameo in The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug. He’s been vocal about being a superfan of the J.R.R. Tolkien series. Director Peter Jackson even called the comedian and talk show host the biggest fan he’s met.
The cameo is a blink-and-you-missed-it one, but nonetheless Colbert does appear disguised, without his glasses and with a hood on, as a spy.
According to Gotcha Movies, it as a family affair, as Colbert’s wife and their two sons also make quick cameos. His wife lights a match and their kids are seen running across the set.
Colbert dedicated an entire week of The Colbert Report to The Hobbit-related material last year, Starpulse notes. The show moved to New Zealand for the week, where the film was shot.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hit theaters Dec. 13, beating Anchorman 2 in its opening weekend. Check out our review here.
