Amanda Knox and ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito’s guilty verdicts in the death of Meredith Kercher have been upheld, overturning their 2011 appeal which set them free after four years.
The new verdict was called Florence on Wednesday, which was ordered by Italy's highest court, the supreme court in Rome.
This is the third trial they have had to go through since the 2007 death of Kercher. After spending four years in an Italian jail, Knox got a break when her guilty verdict was successfully appealed and she was able to go return to the U.S. However, a retrial started in September 2013.
According to USA Today, Knox was in Seattle when the guilty verdict was announced today, while Sollecito was there. Legal experts say another trial could take place when both Knox and Sollecito appeal, which they’re expected to do.
Prosecutors asked that the both receive 28 1/2 years in prison for the death of Britsh-born Kercher.
