Bernie Madoff, the man convicted for a massive Ponzi scheme, is back in prison after suffering a heart attack last month.

The 75-year-old Madoff, who was sentenced to 150 years in prison for his crimes, sent an email to CNBC, claiming that he suffered a heart attack in December. According to The New York Daily News, he also told the financial cable network that he is suffering from kidney cancer, which he said was in stage four. That means it has started spreading to other parts of his body.

Reuters reports that the Bureau of Prisons in Washington did not confirm Madoff’s email, saying they would not comment on a specific inmate’s health. However, spokesman Ed Ross said that it isn’t uncommon for an inmate to be rushed to a local hospital for a medical emergency.

Ira Lee Sorkin, Madoff’s attorney, also refused to comment. “It was decided a while ago that I cannot comment about his physical or emotional condition,” Sorkin told Reuters.

Madoff pleaded guilty to engineering a massive Ponzi scheme in 2009. His brother, Peter, was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the scheme. Son Andrew is fighting cancer and his other son committed suicide.
