French First Lady Valerie Trierweiler was hospitalized on Friday, just her partner, French President Francois Hollande threatened a tabloid with legal action. The magazine Closer reported that he is having an affair with an actress who supported him during the last election.
Trierweiler, 48, was admitted to a Paris hospital on Friday and was expected to be discharged over the weekend, reports The Telegraph. However, Euronews reports that she remained hospitalized until today and will be discharged shortly.
She was admitted after suffering from stress following the publication of Closer’s report Friday. The magazine alleged that Hollande, 59, was seeing actress Julie Gayet, 41, at a Paris apartment. Hollande threatened to sue for invasion of privacy, but didn’t deny having the affair.
Triweiler’s office officially said the reason for her going to the hospital was to “get some rest and have some tests done.”
The Telegraph also reported today that Le Parisien said Trierweiler does not intend to break off her relationship with Hollande right away. “She seems prepared to forgive (him), she doesn’t want to slam the door on a whim,” a ‘friend’ told the paper. “But she wants to know very quickly what François Hollande’s intentions are.”
Hollande will have his annual press conference on Tuesday, during which the Socialist leader will talk about his country’s economy.
