Police are investigating if the human remains that were found along a river bank in Queens are that of a missing autistic teenager.
According to NBC New York, after a human arm, a pair of legs, torso and some clothing washed ashore, police contacted the family of Avonte Oquendo.
The decomposed body parts were then taken to the Medical Examiner’s office where they will be tested further to see if there is a DNA match.
Police received a call on Thursday about possible remains found on some rocks along the East River bank.
The New York Times reports that the 14-year-old was last seen in October when surveillance video showed him running out of his school building in Long Island City near the East River in the middle of the day.
After Oquendo’s disappearance, police launched a massive investigation and search for the teen boy, who has severe autism and is unable to care for himself.
Oquendo’s family has filed a lawsuit against the school and Department of Education claiming that his disappearance was mishandled
