The White House will now have to weigh in on Justin Bieber’s immigration status, since a petition to get the troubled teen pop star deported back to Canada has reached 100,000 signatures.
The petition was posted on Jan. 23, right after Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach for allegedly drag racing and DUI. He was also found with an expired licence and will be arraigned on Valentine’s Day.
As of yesterday, the petition only had 64,000 signatures, but it is now up to 104,000. That means that the White House will be required to respond.
“We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture,” the petition reads. “We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked.” It suggests that the “Baby” singer is a danger to our society and to our youth.
“We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society,” the petition concludes.
It could take a long time for the White House to respond. For example, a petition to get Jimmy Kimmel fired over a controversial skit was posted in October 2013, but it wasn’t until earlier this month that the Obama administration found time to respond. Considering that the president is now busy promoting his State of the Union agenda, responding to this petition probably isn't his top priority.
This also isn’t the first time citizens have called on the president to deport a celebrity. Back in December 2012, there was a failed movement to get CNN’s Piers Morgan kicked out of the U.S.
