Another day, another store chain announces that it either has or might have suffered from a data breach. On Saturday, Michaels said that it discovered "possible fraudulent activity."
If there is a breach, then payment card information may be hacked. Michaels CEO Chuck Robin said they aren't sure yet, CNN reports, but they wanted to speak up about the possibility.
Rubin released a statement saying, "We are concerned there may have been a data security attack on Michaels that may have affected our customers' payment card information."
The latest possible security breach follows on the reveal that high-end retailer Neiman Marcus had 1.1 million credit cards compromised. Only those who shopped in-store were at risk the company said.
The reason was that hackers were able to install malware onto the retailer's store operating systems. Though up to 1.1 million customers could be affected, only 2,400 cards had actually been used for fraudulent activity so far.
