Sony Pictures Classics is continuing its relationship with legendary filmmaker Woody Allen. The distributor has just acquired Magic In The Moonlight, which will be released some time this year.
SPC has distributed seven films from Allen and his last five consecutively, reports Deadline. Allen has been on an upswing creatively, winning an Oscar for 2011’s Midnight in Paris and his new film, Blue Jasmine, is also earning awards buzz. So the relationship has definitely been beneficial to both sides.
Magic in the Moonlight stars Emma Stone and Colin Firth and is set in France during the Jazz Age. As usual, Allen has attracted a bevy of talented actors for supporting parts, including Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Eileen Atkins and Jacki Weaver. The film was produced by Gravier Productions.
Allen will be honored at the Golden Globes this weekend with the Cecil B. DeMille Award and Blue Jasmine is up for several awards itself. Although he is getting the lifetime achievement award, he still isn’t going to attend. Instead, Diane Keaton will pick up the award on his behalf.
