A fire in a downtown Toledo apartment complex killed two firefighters on Sunday, according to city officials.
The names of the two are being withheld as the families are pending notification and confirming their identifications. Autopsies are currently scheduled to take place on Monday, according to ABC New.
Firefighters were working to put out a fire around 3:30 p.m. in a six-unit apartment building on Magnolia Street. The two individuals became disoriented before being taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center on stretchers. All seven tenants of the six apartments were reportedly able to get out of the building and are doing fine.
According to Toledo Blade, dozens of firefighters met at their union hall after the incident occurred. They waited together for the official news that the two had passed.
It is suspected that the fire may have been electrical in nature. Firefighters continued to fight the blaze after the two were taken off to the hospital, at about 4:15 p.m.
