A Tennessee nun was sentenced to almost three years in a prison after breaking into a power plant. She will face charges for breaking and entering and for trespassing on private property.
Megan Rice, along with two other activists broke into a nuclear weapon complex that contained bomb-grade uranium, reported ABC News. They were in the facility for over two hours before they were caught, even though they set off the alarms.
When being sentenced, Rice expressed no remorse for her actions and even gave the judge the option to sentence her to life in prison. She blamed her break-in on the big amounts of money the US spends on warfare and that she is willing to give her life in order to save others.
Greg Boertje-Obed and Michael Walli, the other people who entered with Rice, are facing up to five years in prison due to previous civil disobedience.
REUTERS reported that the break-in happened back in July of 2012. US officals are being ridiculed for their extreme lack of security before and during the break-in.
Rice has been a nun since she was 18. She also served for 40 years in West Africa as a missionary.
