A great-grandfather mistakenly picked up and took home the wrong first-grader from Sterling Community School in Connecticut on Friday.

According to WFSB, parents at the school were updated on the pickup policy during a meeting Tuesday night in response to the great-grandfather’s huge mishap.

However, the mother of Everett, the boy who was taken with the stranger, wants action and school officials to be held responsible.

NBC News reported that Everett’s mother, Angela Stone, explained at the meeting how the man finally noticed he did not have the right kid.

"Once the great-grandmother sees the boy and removes his hat, she realizes it's not her great-grandson and calls the school to say the great-grandfather has taken the wrong kid," said Stone.

The school then told the man to bring him back to the school, but did not even know the child had been missing.

The mix-up apparently happened because Everett was wearing the same hat as the man’s great-grandson. But no matter the reason, Stone is appalled at the poor security and the way the school handled the incident.

The school board said it was looking into what happened.
