Police are searching for an inmate who they say escaped from a Michigan prison, abducted a woman and fled to Indiana.

According to CNN, prison officials discovered Michael David Elliot missing from the Ionia Correctional Facility Sunday evening.

Fox 17 News has reported that authorities believe the convicted killer may have abducted a woman using a box cutter or a knife and drove to Indiana.

She was able to escape when Elliot stopped for gas about 130 miles south of the prison.

The woman immediately called for help, but Elliot was gone by the time police arrived. Investigators believe he may still be driving the woman’s Jeep Liberty.

The 40-year-old Elliot was convicted of a quadruple first-degree murder in the early ‘90s and is serving two life terms. He also has convictions for arson and armed robbery.

Officials are still investigating how Elliot escaped from the facility and are asking anyone with any information on his whereabouts to call police immediately.
