The Republican Party has narrowed it down to eight choices for cities to host their 2016 Republican National Convention.

The eight cities, which feature Ohio’s three largest cities, include : Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Preibus, announced the list on his Twitter page.

“The road to the White House runs through Ohio. It is the ultimate battleground state,” said Ohio Republican Party Chairman Matt Borges, referring to the three Ohio cities that made the cut.

“Not only does Ohio have three world-class cities capable of hosting a national convention, but bringing one here would put our candidate and Party’s message directly in front of voters. We will do everything we can to support our cities’ bids for the convention."

No Republican candidate has ever been able to win the presidency without winning the majority of votes in Ohio, according to The Washington Times. The battleground state is extremely important to elections, with Ohio voters correctly picking the winning candidate in the last eleven elections.

The eight cities will present to the RNC on March 3, and the winner will be chosen in late summer or early fall.
