Time to huddle in your glass case of emotion and cry. Will Farrell’s Anchorman collaborator, Adam McKay, said in a new interview that there will not be a third film in the series.

During an interview with the U.K. magazine Empire, McKay, who co-wrote and directed both Anchorman films, said that Ron Burgundy’s saga is “done.”

“I think that’s it,” McKay said. “It was great to do it and it was so fun to work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy.”

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues may have not been as great as fans of the first film hoped for, but the movie did at least cross the $100 million mark. It finished with much more than 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and a new R-rated cut is set to hit theaters today.

Despite that success, Ferrell and McKay are happy with how Anchorman 2 finished the story. They are also not interested in making sequels for any of their other films, so don’t expect a Step Brothers 2.

“No, that’s the last sequel we’re gonna do,” McKay told Empire. “There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world.” He added that he’s “totally satisfied” now that the alternate Anchorman 2 is out.

While this means there will not be an official Anchorman 3, there are technically three Anchorman movies. As fans know, the alternate cut of the first film - Wake Up Ron Burgundy! - is actually an entirely different story, so we can always have that as the third movie.
