Officials said a 14-year-old boy was stabbed while trying to break up a fight with a man and another teen on a Detroit bus.

WWJ has noted that police are searching for a man in his 40s in connection with the stabbing.

The boy was found injured at a Detroit Department of Transportation bus stop on Wednesday evening.

“Our victim tried to break up the fight, at which point the suspect produced a knife and stabbed him,” said Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody.

The Associated Press has reported that the teen had a single knife wound to his chest and was in critical condition at an area hospital.

Authorities believe that the argument happened when the bus was stopped at a city street corner. When the suspect pulled out a knife, the teen tried to get away, but the suspect followed and stabbed him. The man suspected then left the scene.

Police do not have anyone in custody at this time.
