The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has confirmed that U2 and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O will perform at the 86th Academy Awards in March. Both are up for Oscars in the Best Original Song category and will be joined by their fellow nominees.
The Academy announced U2’s performance Wednesday, just after frontman Bono confirmed that they would be there at the nominees luncheon on Monday. The Grammy-winning group will perform “Ordinary Love,” their contribution to Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
Karen O co-wrote “The Moon Song” with Her writer/director Spike Jonze. She will perform the song, which was also nominated for Best Original Song. Her is also up for Best Picture and Jonze was nominated for his original screenplay.
Idina Menzel has already agreed to perform “Let It Go” from Frozen and Pharrell Williams will perform “Happy” from Despicable Me 2.
The Best Original Song category was under the microscope recently after the title track from the little seen Alone Yet Not Alone had its nomination rescinded. The song’s co-writer was accused of violating the Academy’s campaigning rules.
The Oscars will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and air live on March 2 on ABC.
