Robert Kirkman is hoping to make the smooth transition from comic books and television to film with Air, a sci-fi project he is producing. He’s enlisted The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and Djimon Hounsou to star.
Kirkman is best known as the creator of The Walking Dead and is also an executive producer on the AMC series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported on Air, he is producing David Alpert, his Circle of Confusion partner, who also works on Walking Dead. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Insidious) is also producing with Chris Ferguson.
Video game veteran Christian Cantamessa wrote the script with Chris Pasetto, who will direct. It will be Pasetto’s directorial debut. Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions is in talks to distribute the low-budget film.
Air is set in a world where a nuclear disaster has made the atmosphere inhospitable. Reedus and Honsou (Guardians of the Galaxy) will play two men tasked with keeping an eye on the cryogenically sleeping personnel who are supposed to re-establish human society. As MTV News notes, the laboratory is the only place left where people can live and the cryogenically frozen people will only wake up when the air is breathable once again.
Reedus can be seen on The Walking Dead on AMC Sunday nights. He plays Daryl on the show.
