The Florida man that shot another for texting in a movie theater was found to have also been texting shortly before he opened fire.
Detectives spoke with Matthew Reeves, Curtis Reeves' son, who told them that his father had recently sent him a text letting him know he was sitting inside the theater already, reports The Associated Press.
He made it into the theater just as his father shot the other man, Chad Oulson. Reeves maintains he did not witness the shooting itself, but helped try to stem the Oulson's bleeding afterwards.
The 71-year-old retired police captain pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge claiming that he was merely defending himself, reports CBS News.
As previously reported, Curtis argued with Oulson, who was sitting one row in front of him, for texting with his daughter during the previews. The two men argued and Curtis left before returning to argue some more. A bag of popcorn was thrown and then Reeves pulled a handgun out and shot Oulson.
CBS notes that the police report said that witnesses did not see any punches thrown, only the popcorn from Oulson.
