Lea Michele is opening up about her debut album Louder, saying she could never not include the track she wrote for her late boyfriend, Glee star Cory Monteith.
The album officially dropped on Monday and it’s already climbing the iTunes charts. Michelle sat down with MTV News and talked about the personal song.
She said of writing “If You Say So,” which is about the last words she and Monteith spoke to each before his death, "I think at the time it was really early and everything, so I really don't even remember a lot of what I was feeling back then.”
She added that now, “I'm just thankful now, I think in any sense, whether it's difficult or whether it's good, music is such therapy, so for me this album as a whole has been very therapeutic and each song has helped me in a different way."
She also said of choosing the songs to put on her very first album, “I don't think I could have had a record without including all the aspects of my journey.”
Fans were able to hear “If You Say So” even before the album debuted. She reportedly recorded it just a week after he died.
Monteith died at the age of 31 due to a mixture of alcohol and heroin.
