A Long Island male teenager has been arrested for the attempted murder of his brother.
On March 14, 18-year-old Ruben Renderos of Williston Park told his 14-year-old brother that he wanted to kill himself. According to the police, the younger teen said that he would kill him first so he wouldn’t be alone, according to NBC New York.
The brothers were home alone at the time of the incident. Renderos took a kitchen knife to his brother, stabbing him multiple times in his head, back, and chest. According to Newsday, the younger brother survived the attack and was able to call his parents to tell them what happened while Renderos fled.
Police quickly found and apprehended Renderos while he was walking near a local high school.
Renderos has been charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon.
Renderos was arraigned Saturday, but released without bail. His brother is in the hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
