A mother who drover her minivan into the ocean, with her three kids inside, has been charged with attempted murder.

ABC News reports that after numerous evaluations, Ebony Wilkerson has been charged with three counts of attempted murder, as well as child abuse charges.

Wilkerson, who is 27 and a half weeks pregnant, was arrested after being released from a local hospital.

Sheriff Ben Johnson revealed that she showed no signs of mental illness, and she was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time.

Family members of Wilkerson, called the police after they were concerned of her behavior. Police pulled over Wilkerson but found no reasonable cause to take her in. After being let go, Wilkerson drove her van into the ocean at a beach in Daytona.

After learning that children were in the car, a few bystanders rushed to rescue everyone.

One man who rushed to save them was named Stacy Robinson. He described the scene to ABC News, explaining how he saved the children.

"The son was snatching at the wheel, trying to get her to come back toward the shore and I was asking, I was like, 'What is going on, why are you driving on the water,'" Robinson said.

He then described the disoriented mother, speeding off into the waves.

"That's when I snatched out the boy first and the little girl," Robinson said. "Then I noticed the baby in the car seat. Once I grabbed the little girl out, I saw [the mother], she began to climb out her window."

According to the New York Daily News, both the children and witnesses were interviewed before Wilkerson was arrested.

Johnson explained that he wanted to make sure they could charge her with something that will keep her away for a long time.

"We’re going to make sure this doesn't happen again involving these children," Johnson said.
