A North Dakota mother has been charged in the murder of her 13-year-old son who died of starvation.
Jessica Jensen's son weighed all of 21 pounds when he died, reports The Associated Press. The state medical examiner, William Massello, said that the 13-year-old boy died of chronic starvation because he suffered from a juvenile appetite disorder.
The medical examiner ruled his death as homicide. Jensen admitted that her son's pituitary gland didn't work correctly and so he had a hormonal growth problem, but she had not taken him to the doctor for years.
Jensen has also been charged with abuse or neglect of a child in relation to her two other children, according to Pioneer Press. Her other children are 7 and 14 years old. She is accused of not providing an education for her kids.
Jensen said she home-schooled the children and had not taken her son to a doctor because she could "solve the problems." The 7-year-old was not able to accurately identify her age or even spell her own name.
Jensen called 911 back on Jan. 12 saying her son had "passed on," but a nurse practitioner said that it looks like the 13-year-old had died some time ago.
