Historians are still looking into details about the death of Solomon Northup, the author of 12 Years a Slave.

As scholars attempt to find clues about Northup’s death, they were able to trace aspect of his life. Solomon Northup was born on July 10, 1807 in the Essex County town of Minerva, where neighboring areas include Albany and Saratoga Springs. The movie explains that the “date, location, and circumstances” of Northup’s death remain unknown. Scholars explain that there are no accurate documents surrounding his death.

According to the Associated Press, Rachel Seligman, co-author of Solomon Northup: The Complete Story of the Author of Twelve Years a Slave said of Northup's death, "That's sort of a big blank spot in the story, for sure.”

Interest in the material about Northup has reached an all-time high. Increased book sales for 12 Years a Slave were reported by Amazon. The book contains all of the fundamental information for the movie, which enjoyed an outstanding year. The movie has won the Academy Award for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress.
