On Sunday morning, a 14-year-old Twitter user tweeted a threat to American Airlines, but quickly regretted her decision when the airline replied promising to contact the FBI.
Twitter user named “Sarah” with the twitter handle @QueenDemtriax_ decided to play a little prank, but these kinds of threats aren’t taken lightly. According to NY Daily News, Sarah tweeted at American Airlines, “hello my name’s Ibrahim and I’m from Afghanistan. I’m part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I’m gonna do something really big bye.”
Whether this was a joke or not, the airline can’t just ignore something like this. American Airlines quickly replied with, “Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.”
Naturally, Sarah panicked and immediately responded with a bunch of tweets apologizing and begging for forgiveness. She claimed she was just a 14-year-old white girl playing a stupid prank, and even blamed it on a friend at one point. “I’m so sorry I’m scared now,” she wrote. “I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine.”
Bustle reports that Sarah even tweeted, “Omfg I’m so in trouble omg my parents are gonna kill me” and “I’m f***ing 14 years old, do they think I’m gonna blow up a plane or something. I’m just stupid okay?” and even, “I always wanted to be famous, but I meant like Demi Lovato famous, not Osama bin laden famous.”
The more she tweeted, the more desperate she became. The conversation quickly went viral. People began laughing at how foolish she was while others believed the whole thing was a hoax. She even added that she was a fangirl and wouldn’t stop using an excuse that she was just a white girl. “I’m just a fangirl,” she wrote. “Pls I don’t have evil thoughts and plus I’m a white girl.”
As the conversation became more popular, her followers kept growing, until she made the decision to delete her account on Sunday night. But not before she selfishly tweeted “Wow bc of this I gained 1k followers. Okay today was the highlight of my twitter days.” The airline also removed the tweet to Sarah from their account.
Spokeswoman Dori Alvarez told the Daily News, “We took it down basically because it generated a lot of traffic. We took it down so we could better focus on our customers.” American Airlines even spoke out by saying, “Art American, the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority. We take security matters very seriously and work with authorities on a case by case basis.” An FBI spokeswoman hasn’t revealed if the agency is looking into the threat further or not.
