Amazon.com appears to be taking on the mobile phone industry. The company will be releasing a smartphone later this year.
Most recently Amazon has been creating versions of the phone and giving them to developers in both San Francisco and Seattle, reported The Wall Street Journal. The new plan is apart of a greater strategy to issue new products against Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co.
Amazon is working to create a phone capable of three-dimensional images. Additionally the phone should have retina-tracking technology and multiple cameras. News of the phone should be announced at the end of June leaving time for phones to be shipped by fall before the holiday season. Pricing of the phone has not been released.
Most recently, Amazon has made news with its announcement to purchase Comixology. Comixology is a digital comics company that was created in 2007 to give publishers a digital format for both comics and graphic comics.
