Has technology finally allowed us to find that elusive Loch Ness Monster? The Official Loch Ness Monster Fan Club claims that an image from Apple Maps may show that the monster is so big that it can be seen from space.
The group has spent six months analyzing satellite imagery that appears to show a giant, swimming object that could only be seen on iPads and iPhones, reports The Daily Mail. If it is the creature, the images could show that the monster is 100 feet long and has two giant flippers to help it move through the Scottish lake.
“It looks like a boat wake, but the boat is missing. You can see some boats moored at the shore, but there isn’t one here. We’ve shown it to boat experts and they don’t know what it is,” Gary Campbell, the club’s president, told the Daily Mail. “Whatever this is, it is under the water and heading south, so unless there have been secret submarine trials going on in the loch, the size of the object would make it likely to be Nessie.”
He said that they looked at other “logical” explanations for the ripple effect, but none could be found.
According to Metro, this follows three alleged sightings last year, but they all turned out to be fakes. One picture wasn’t even taken at Loch Ness.
The club found out about this particular satellite image from two amateurs just searching around on the Apple Maps app.
“The first thing that came into my head when I saw it was, ‘That’s the Loch Ness Monster.’ It was the shape of it, I thought it had to be something more than a shadow,” Andrew Dixon, one of the spotters told the Daily Mail.
Members of the club probably don’t want to hear this, but it could have also just been the undercurrents in the lake.
